PRESS RELEASE - THE OFFICIAL PROGRAMMING REVEALED

CINARS, The International Exchange for the Performing Arts, is pleased to announce the official program for its 2010 Platform, which will be held in Montreal from the 15th through the 21st of November of this year. Once more, originality and excellence will be the order of the day!

The CINARS selection jury received a record number of submissions, most notably a growing number from abroad. The jury selected 27 shows of the highest quality, originating from 14 different countries, demonstrating a great diversity of creative expression. Europe is especially well represented, with no less than ten shows from Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden and Ukraine. All these shows will be performed, either in their entirety or in the form of excerpts, at the Théâtre Maisonneuve of the Place des Arts and at the Monument-National.

Opening night at the Théâtre Maisonneuve will feature the Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal performing a new creation by the German choreographer, Christian Spuck : Leonce & Lena. This satire of love under absolutism will have just recently been performed as a North American premiere at the opening of the GBCM season. Later, Montreal will be graced by the likes of the Compagnie Käfig (France), the Compagnie Rêvolution - Anthony Égéa (France), Yuzo Ishiyama / A.P.I. (Japan) and Zero visibility Corp. (Norway), who will present excerpts of their latest dance creations at the Monument-National.

The multidisciplinary arts will also be offering a worldwide overview: the Boustrophédon company (France) will present Court-Miracles, a show involving puppets and humans, brimming with hope and humour. Four other companies will also be on the bill: Circa (Australia), Jamie Adkins (Canada), Les parfaits inconnus (Canada) and the Cirkus Cirkör (Sweden).

As for the theatrical shows, they will be performed mainly in the French language. Le Théâtre Incliné and the Théâtre populaire d’Acadie will present the entirety of their creation Rafales : cruel stories about the history of Acadia, effortlessly blending dance, shadows and puppets. The program will also feature excerpts from the Compagnie Chaliwaté (Belgium), the DynamO Théâtre (Canada), the Théâtre I.N.K. (Canada) and Patrice Thibaud (France).

Musical acts are also well represented, with 12 shows being showcased, offering a wide array of styles and colours. Among the Canadian artists featured at the conference we find: L’orchestre d’hommes-orchestres, Les Batinses, OktoEcho, Chloé Sainte-Marie and Elizabeth Shepherd. As for the artists from abroad, we have: Roxana Amed (Argentina), Stéphanie Blanchoud (Belgium), GongMyoung (Korea), The Zodiac Trio (France/United States), Tambuco (Mexico), Kinan Azmeh & Dinuk Wijeratne Duo (Syria/Sri Lanka) and DakhaBrakha (Ukraine).

As with every CINARS, in the margins of the official program, there will also be more than 70 performances, from acts from Quebec and the rest of Canada, taking place in venues in Montreal, under the umbrella of CINARS PLUS (Off-CINARS). Therefore, the 2010 program will offer, once again, an excellent overview of the current level of creativity and diversity in the performing arts, worldwide.
