CINARS concluded in a very festive mood on Saturday November 18 with a magical evening organized by Cirque Éloize in its own creative studio. This great party helped bring together all CINARS participants and celebrate the end of the 12th edition.

Very positive results!

1,056 participants attended this year’s event, i.e. 335 presenters/programmers, 168 observers, 419 artists, 253 exhibitors in 140 booths from 46 countries. This 12th edition brought professionals from the world over having them discover in Montreal the best performing arts productions. Seeing and being seen… CINARS 2006 provided numerous opportunities for meetings and triggered exchanges, which helped all participants develop their contact network both on the local and international levels.

An abundant and top-rated production offer

All in all, 33 juried productions in dance, music, theatre, multidisciplinary arts and world music were presented over the 5 days in 3 Montreal venues. The OFF CINARS attracted 50 companies that produced themselves in 32 Montreal venues in 81 performances. The Montreal dance company Le Carré des Lombes had the honour of opening this 12th edition. Their production offered a true portrait of the leading edge creation and activity in Montreal’s artistic community.

Successful networking activities!

Aside from the many productions offered, participants were unanimous about many activities: 1 presentation of new projects, 6 projects presented, 100 participants, 2 luncheons, 2 seminars, 260 participants, 4 workshops, 24 panellists, 300 participants, 3 workshop breakfasts, 20 panellists, 700 participants. The highly popular nature of the activities is indicative of their relevance. They helped networking and contacts between performing arts professionals. As a meeting and exchange point for agents, artists, presenters/programmers and observers from all over the world, the exhibition room was also a great success.

Ensuring the continued existence of CINARS

During the opening evening, Yvan Gauthier of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec acknowledged the expertise of CINARS and stated his solid support for the next editions.

The relevance of the mission of CINARS, a unique conference in North America, is increasingly bolstered. Encouraging the promotion and influence of the performing arts both here and abroad remains the purpose of CINARS. See you in 2008!

A few comments from participants!

“The ambience in the exhibition room was lively and positive … I liked my showcase and we met a good number of presenters from the world over.” Dulcinée Langfelder, Dulcinée Langfdelder et cie, Montreal

“The forum was remarkable and very rich with events, information and people. And the main feature of it was a wonderful atmosphere of hospitality and cooperation.” - Ekaterina Khromova, Golden Mask Festival of Performing Arts, Russia

“The range of work was very stimulating, and the supporting events informative and fun. I have no doubt that a number of productions that you selected will be touring the UK in 2008 with dates at Hall for Cornwall.” - Tim Brinkman, Hall for Cornwall

“We took one year to prepare for CINARS 2006… And rightly so! Following many years of hard work opening the doors of international markets for our artists and the many marketing operations abroad, we had the chance, during CINARS 2006 here in Montreal, to meet many top presenters and programmers from the world over. After CINARS, we were totally thrilled by all these meetings and touring and co-operation projects for our artists. What an opportunity! Thank you very much to Alain Paré and the entire team! We can’t wait for CINARS 2008!” - Annick-Patricia Carrière and Elisabeth Comtois, Agence Station bleue, Montreal.
